Bio: Original Smitty, was raised in Anchorage, Alaska in the early 1950's-1960's and tudored in art by painter/Artist mother Marietta of Alaska. Interested in the ancient art form of tattooing at an early age and apprenticed into tattoo in Anchorage in the late 1970's, then on to Seattle in the early 1980's to serve a second and far more educating apprenticeship in the art and craft of tattoo under P.A.Stephens of Seattle Tattoo Emporium fame. After working for the Emporium then on to working at Ace Tattoo with second generation tattooist Rio DeGennaro (son of Lew Lewis of the famous Long Beach Pike shop fame) then at the Everett Tattoo Emporium from 1989 to 1992 where Smitty worked with well known tattooists such as; Terry Tweed, Claude Ponthieu, "Rat=Tattoo", Dave Shore, Mike "Rollo" Malone, and many more.
Off to Alaska in 1993, where two shops were set up by Smitty under the "Alaska Tattoo" name and were operated by Smitty and crew where notables like Marcus Pacheco came to tattoo as well as young artists like Lew "Fat Lew" Hess ,Clae Welch, Kerry Linden and others were given the chance to learn and apprentice into tattoo.
In 1999 returning to the Puget Sound area of Seattle Washington, Smitty settled into the little navy yard town of Bremerton, Washington and opened "Smitty's Place".
